| Artist Bio Barbara Cushing is a realist artist living in New York. From 1972 through 1986 she pursued a career as a landscape artist, painting in Maine where she was a professor of Art, as well at other locations in New York, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Her landscapes are in private and corporate collections, and represented by the Robert Schoelkopf Gallery in New York from 1982 - 1988. She was the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in 1985 and the MacDowell Fellowship in 1977 and 1981. In 1987, the artist undertook a new line of work, that of historical image editing. This lead to her 17 year employment at Corbis, a digital image licensing company owned by Bill Gates where she was acquistions editor for historical images. In 2003, she renewed active art making. In her second fine art career she is creating "7 Continents History", a new and growing collection of colorized historical images emphasizing global interactions of people and cultures. 7 Continents History includes a large number of color historical images of Africa, Asia, and Latin America newly available from digital archival sources.
